A little something different

Was that a glimpse of summer we had earlier this week? I think so! I am so excited for summer holidays to begin as it seems like our days and evenings have been super full for the past month. I cannot wait to have lazy sleep in summer mornings with the kids and some serious family/friend holiday time in the warm sun! There will be sun right???

Anyway, this past week my lifelong friend put me in front of her camera! She does amazing short films and documentaries and asked if my family would be willing to be in one of her films! Of course I agreed. Although I have to fully confess that I am terrible in front of the camera, especially a video camera!  I could not keep a straight face for the life of me.

Since it was the most perfect summer evening I grabbed my camera . I couldn't very well let that beautiful setting sun that would backlight my children perfectly go to waste! So here are a few of my shots from the night...

Personal Project | Another Quilt

I've had this design in my head for a couple of months now, and I finally go the chance to sit down and do it! This is one of the larger quilts I've made and also one of the most enjoyable! Here is what I've been up to!

There is not much better than waking up to the warm rays of sun streaming into my bedroom. What a wonderful way to greet the morning!

Whew! Here we are at Monday again.  I have been busy this past week with shoots, Bootcamp, and... quilting!  My project this week was to make a quilt.  I have never done this before so it was quite the learning experience for me.  I ordered these pre-cut squares online in what is called a charm pack.  I laid them all out, sewed them, ironed, sewed, ironed etc. Then added the edges and backing... and then finally started to "quilt."  I started by hand and then tried quilting on my machine, which was much more fun and a lot less time consuming!  So here are the squares...

Personal Project Monday - My Garden

Well this past week has been so beautiful and warm!  I took some time to weed, dig, shop for new plants and flowers, picked up a load of soil and thouroghly enjoyed spending time "working the land."

I truly love this time of year when everything seems so lush and green.  The air is fresh and new life is springing up everywhere.  Here are a few pics from around my yard...

Personal Project Monday

Okay, this week has been craaazy!  Crazy in a  good way, but not leaving me much time to get many fun projects done.  I am in the finishing stages of this little sewing adventure.  Any of you who know me well know that I don't sew.  Not that I wouldn't love to know how to sew, and I am learning, ever so slowly, so anyone with tips feel free to send them my way! I actually ordered some  fabric that should be arriving any day now and I hoping to create a magnificent quilt, so stay tuned.

So now for a bit of history as to how this little project came to life.  Last fall Joel and I went looking for a new car for him. We test drove a whole bunch and finally decided on a 2010 Subaru Forester...love it btw!  Anyway, while he was doing all the mountains of paperwork at the dealership, he dropped me off at Chapters.  I stumbled upon this cool book that was full of ideas as to how to reuse old clothes. I wish for the life of me I remembered the name of the book but I can't.  One of the ideas was taking a men's dress shirt and making an apron out of it.  Well, I didn't have a men's dress shirt but I did have this old shirt of mine that I hadn't worn forever, but could never seem to part with it because I loved the fabric.  So, without following a pattern I just started cutting and sewing until I came up with what resembled an apron!  I still have some finishing touches to do on it so don't look too closely, and for all of you who can sew, don' judge!  I'm just learning!
